THE ARIZONA DISTRICT

The Arizona District is comprised of 41 Assemblies throughout Arizona. Annual activities include a variety of patriotic events. Fourth Degree Honor Guards are found participating in events such as Rosary Sunday, Episcopal and pastoral installations, presenting the Colors at athletic events, escorting the Relics of the six Mexican Martyrs and Relics of the Passion, marching in parades and the Feast of the Holy Innocents.

The primary purpose of the Fourth Degree is to foster the spirit of patriotism by promoting responsible citizenship and a love of and loyalty to our country through active membership in local Fourth Degree groups (called "assemblies"). Certain members of our assembly serve as honor guards at civic and religious functions, an activity that has brought worldwide recognition to the Knights of Columbus.

ATTENTION ALL FAITHFUL NAVIGATORS, FAITHFUL NAVIGATORS-ELECT, FAITHFUL COMPTROLLERS AND FAITHFUL COMPTROLLERS-ELECT

REPORT DEADLINES:

TO BE A PATRIOT REPORT WAS DUE ON 6/1/08.

Four Assemblies have reported:

  • 1673 in Sun City – Packages from Home

  • 1989 in Mesa – East Valley Memorial Day Mass, Flag raising and Dedication

  • 2308 in Tucson – Parish Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser for Tucson Hospitalized Veterans

  • 2669 in Avondale – Military Service Personnel Appreciation Dinner and Awards Ceremony

The District master will post his choice as district winner to be forwarded to the Vice Supreme Master for consideration as the Provincial winner. Last Year’s District winner was 2356 in Sun Lakes for their Parish wide program to send collected goods and monies to the our troops in Iraq with the help of the Arizona National Guard. Unfortunately they were not chosen at the Provincial level. All reports that have been submitted last year and this year make the District Master proud that our assemblies are active to this level and they are all winners to him.

Civic Award Report is due by 6/30/08.

Report of New Officers Chosen for the term of 7/1/08 to 6/30/09 is due as soon as the election is over along with the Fourth Degree version of the directory form. These forms and the addresses for all reports were distributed at the Arizona State Convention and also at the Biennial District meeting, both held in Tucson. These two forms are critical that we have your correct information for the new fraternal year and that you will receive important information from the district, state and supreme.

Installations of New Assembly Officers

The District Master should be contacted as soon as possible to book a date.  As of this article, he has no more Saturdays in July and only two in August. Sundays are open except for the 27th in July, and all but the 3rd in August. He has only one installation scheduled after 9/1/08 and that is tentative. He will not take any more appointments in September until the decision on the appointment of District Master for the next term has been made by Supreme. The decisions are made at the Supreme Assembly meeting the following two days after the Supreme Convention in the first week of August. So we should know by mid August.

OUR LADY OF CHARITY
MARIAN HOUR OF PRAYER

Through the next year, the Knights of Columbus is promoting devotion to Our Lady under her title of Our Lady of Charity.

The program was announced in the September edition of Columbia Magazine and in the September 10th issue of the KnightLine. Worthy State Deputy Stanley Schroeder cam back from the Supreme Convention with two copies of the painting of Our Lady of Charity, the patroness of Cuba, which will be traveling between councils and parishes as the focus of a rosary centered prayer program.

Arizona, in union with the entire order, will be offering this prayer program for the intentions of His Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI. Next year at the conclusion of the program, a "spiritual bouquet ", including the total number of participants and services held will be presented to the Holy Father.

"It is altogether appropriate for the Knights to honor Our Lady of Charity this year since charity is one of our founding principles. This program is an opportunity to reflect on the virtue of Charity and what it means to every Knight,” said Supreme Knight, Carl A. Anderson.

Ed Deppert, Family Life Program Director, is coordinating the scheduling of the Our Lady of Charity tour. Below are links to information needed to plan and schedule the tour in your council or parish.
